Cupertino, Calif. - Apple (NASD: AAPL) CEO Steve Jobs is still closely involved in running the company, while on a medical leave of absence which he is slated to return from at the end of June, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter. Jobs "regularly reviews products and product plans, and was particularly involved in the user interface of the new iPhone operating system that Apple unveiled last month," according to The Journal's sources.

Jobs, who received treatment five years ago for pancreatic cancer, took a medical leave in January, amid speculation about his health in light of his increasingly gaunt physical appearance.

Since then, Apple COO Tim Cook has taken over responsibility for the company's day-to-day operations.

While Jobs did not comment for the story, Apple spokesman Steve Dowling told The Journal that "Steve continues to look forward to returning to Apple at the end of June."
