Variety Parent Co. Trims 7% of Staff, Including Executive Editor

Los Angeles - Publisher Reed Business Information is laying off 7% of staffers across its stable of 80 trade publications, including Variety executive editor Michael Speier, TheWrap.com reported. The company also said that remaining staffers may be required to take mandatory unpaid days off, to the tune of 5-10 days this year. The layoffs come shortly after Peter Bart stepped down as Variety's editor to become president and editorial director.
