Santa Clara,
Calif. - Macrovision (NASD: MVSN), a provider
of copy-protection technology and media databases, said on Wednesday that it
will pay $16.5 million in cash to acquire New York-based Muze, a developer of
tools designed to help consumers find and preview digital entertainment content
that matches their personal preferences.
The deal is expected to close by the end of April, with Macrovision expecting it to add roughly $5 million to its revenue this year and $15 million by 2010. Muze's technology is used by stores and online retailers to enable the search, discovery, sharing and purchasing of entertainment products. The deal complements Macrovision's 2007 acquisition of All Media Guide, another provider of informational databases used by retailers.
