Report: Facebook Now Top Social Net in Much of EuropeAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on April 15, 2009 - 9:11am.
London
- Facebook now ranks as the top social networking site in a majority of
European countries, having seen a 314% increase to nearly 100 million unique
monthly visitors, according to a report from comScore. Of the 17 European
countries covered by comScore's rankings, Facebook was held the top spot among
social networks in 11 of them, including the U.K.,
France, Spain, Italy,
Sweden and Turkey.
"Facebook has very quickly taken a leading position across most of the European social networking market despite having a strong foothold in just a few European countries one year ago," said Mike Read, comScore managing director for Europe. "Over the course of the past year, it has climbed the rankings in virtually every market and taken over the top position in several." Facebook is the sixth-largest Web property worldwide, posting 275 million visitors in February -- a 175% increase from the same period a year ago.
