CNBC: IBM May No Longer Be Interested in Sun at Any Price

Armonk, N.Y. - Wary of the potential for a "deep and intense" government review, IBM (NYSE: IBM) appears no longer to be interested in a takeover of server maker Sun Microsystems (NASD: JAVA), CNBC reported on Thursday.

The network reported that while an acquisition would give IBM around 60% of the market for high-end servers, it also would likely spark regulatory reviews in the U.S. and Europe that could last nine months.

"That's attention that IBM wouldn't want at any price," one source told CNBC.

That would leave Sun, which has been seeking an acquisition for several months, without any serious suitors, though the network called EMC a "long shot."

Earlier this month, IBM reportedly withdraw its $7 billion takeover bid for Sun after the company deemed the price too low.
