Dayton, Ohio
- NCR, a maker of automated kiosks that recently signed a DVD kiosk deal with
Blockbuster (NYSE: BBI), announced on Wednesday that it has acquired TNR Holdings Corp.,
the second-largest DVD kiosk operator in North America.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Ohio-based NCR provides kiosks for the entertainment, gaming, healthcare and other industries in more than 100 countries. Houston, Texas-based TNR operates a network of DVD rental kiosks under the MovieCube and The New Release brands in supermarkets and grocery stores. NCR signed a deal with Blockbuster in the fall of 2008 to deploy some 10,000 Blockbuster Express-branded DVD rental kiosks, beginning in early 2010. "We believe NCR's acquisition sets the stage for aggressive growth and will further our goal of deploying thousands of Blockbuster Express branded kiosks by next year, providing another platform to give consumers added control, flexibility and convenience that goes beyond our traditional store locations," said Blockbuster chairman and CEO Jim Keyes.
