Yahoo Sells Blo.gs Ping Service to Blog Firm AutomatticAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on April 22, 2009 - 7:51am.
Los Angeles
- Automattic, developers of the WordPress blogging software platform, have
acquired Blo.gs, a provider of blog ping and trackback technology, from Yahoo (NASD: YHOO)
for an undisclosed sum.
Yahoo acquired Blo.gs in 2005; the service competes with other "ping" services like Ping-o-Matic, which let bloggers alert search engines and users when their content is updated. "We're looking forward to beefing up the service and giving it a refresh, while continuing its reputation for reliability," Matt Mullenweg, founding developer of WordPress at Automattic, wrote on his blog. "I've been a long-time fan of the service, and it even inspired the early WordPress feature which reordered your blogroll based on update times."
