NPR Lays Off 13 Employees, Plans FurloughsAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on April 24, 2009 - 9:32am.
Washington
- National Public Radio (NPR) has laid off 13 employees, in only the second
round of layoffs at the company in the past 25 years, the Washington Post
reported.
The layoffs are part of a plan that aims to close an $8 million budget gap at the broadcasting firm, which also laid off 64 employees in December; the company has about 800 staffers. NPR told the Post that the layoffs will not affect programming, but will fall among its information technology, legal services and communications departments. In addition to the latest round of layoffs, employees will be furloughed for five days over the next five months, and will also not be paid for three holidays.
