USA Today Continues to Lead Shrinking Newspaper Market

McLean, Va. - Gannett's (NYSE: GCI) USA Today remained the nation's top-selling newspaper during the six-month period ending March 31, though its daily circulation mirrored a national trend by dropping more than 7%, according to new figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulation.

USA Today had a print circulation of 2.1 million for the period, down 7.5% percent due in part to the increasing number of hotel chains cutting back on free newspaper delivery to guest rooms.

Still, the paper's numbers were 24% higher than The Wall Street Journal, and nearly double The New York Times. Circulation at The Washington Post fell 1.2%.

Of the 25 largest U.S. papers, only The Wall Street Journal managed a slight increase in its circulation.
