Report: Sony to Reveal New PSP at E3; Release Slated for Fall

Authored by Mark Hefflinger on April 29, 2009 - 9:21am.
Los Angeles - Sony (NYSE: SNE) will introduce a new iteration of its PSP handheld game system at the E3 Expo in June, 1UP.com reported, citing "sources directly involved with the new system." The new device will reportedly do away with Sony's UMD disc-based format for games in favor of built-in flash memory.

According to 1UP's sources, the new PSP will include a "d-pad, analog nub, and face buttons as part of a sliding unit sticking out below the screen," but will not feature a second analog stick.

The new PSP is expected to be released first in Japan in September, followed by distribution in the U.S. shortly thereafter.
