Report: Facebook in Talks on Funding; Seeks $5-$6B Valuation

Authored by Mark Hefflinger on April 30, 2009 - 7:42am.
New York - Facebook has held "valuation discussions" with a range of potential investors, including Providence Equity Partners, General Atlantic, Bain Capital and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, The New York Post reported, citing "multiple sources close to or involved in the situation." The sources said Facebook is interested in new funding at a valuation of $5 billion to $6 billion, but the private equity firms it has been in talks with see the firm as being worth more in the range of $2 billion to $3 billion.

Facebook's existing investors -- who have to date pumped over $400 million into the company -- are reportedly not happy with the current situation, as they see a new round diluting their investments.
