Report: Labels Unhappy With MySpace MusicAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on May 6, 2009 - 9:25am.
San Francisco - At a board meeting of the MySpace Music
joint venture between the News Corp.-owned (NYSE: NWS) social network and its major labels
partners last month, "several key players were unhappy" with the
service's performance thus far, CNET News.com reported, citing "a source
with knowledge of the talks." The site served a reported 1 billion streams
to users in its first week, but apparently has been less successful in
converting song listeners into song buyers. Some board members reportedly pushed for MySpace to "boost sales conversions and do more to integrate the service with the regular MySpace site." Another source described the meeting as "tense" to CNET. Courtney Holt, the former MTV executive who took the reins at MySpace Music five months ago, reportedly "conceded MySpace Music needed improving" at the meeting, but all the labels remain "very confident" in Holt, sources told CNET.
