Report: Microsoft Layoffs Hit In-Game Ad Unit MassiveAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on May 6, 2009 - 9:09am.
Redmond,
Wash. - Microsoft's (NASD: MSFT) Massive
in-game advertising unit was hit particularly hard by the round of 3,000
layoffs the company announced yesterday, with as many as 75% of Massive's
employees getting the axe, according to VentureBeat.
That would equate to over 100 staffers let go at Massive, which Microsoft acquired for somewhere between $200-$400 million in 2006. Massive competes in the market for in-game ads, which are dynamically inserted into the background of online games, with companies including Double Fusion and IGA Worldwide, the latter of which recently put itself up for sale.
