Alexandria, Va. - Resonate Networks, a startup founded by public affairs veteran John Brady and former White House Political Director Sara Taylor, said on Thursday that it has raised $2 million in its first round of funding to launch what it calls the first online ad network built for public affairs and political advertising.

Backers include Alexander Gage, who helped lead a voter targeting effort during President Bush's 2004 campaign; Harold Ickes, the former White House Deputy Chief of Staff for President Clinton; Steve McMahon, who helped direct Internet strategy for the Howard Dean presidential campaign; Rich Tarplin, who served nearly 20 years in the House and Senate; and Linda Tarplin, who held senior roles in the White House and Department of Health and Human Services under two Republican presidents.

The company said that it offers a better way to target Web users than just their demographics and purchase behavior.

Its platform uses extensive algorithms, data modeling and analysis to target online audiences based on their attitudes and beliefs on a variety of issues, then drives them to take action by joining a campaign or contributing to a cause.
