France's National Assembly Passes 'Three-Strikes' P2P BillAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on May 12, 2009 - 12:24pm.
Paris - France's
National Assembly has voted to adopt a "three-strikes" law that would
compel ISPs to disconnect repeat file-swappers, just weeks after a previous
attempt failed at the hands of the country's Socialist Party, Billboard
reported.
The vote came down to 296 in favor and 233 opposed. The draft law must now pass in the Senate, which is expected to take up the legislation on Wednesday. France's actions on three-strikes legislation come in the week after the European Parliament voted to prohibit punishing copyright infringement with the loss of Internet access. Billboard reports that, should the draft law be approved in the French Senate, it will likely be challenged by opponents before the Constitutional Council, which is empowered to strike elements deemed unconstitutional.
