London - Struggling video
game publisher Atari has sold off its European unit to Japan's Namco Bandai,
MCV reports.
Namco purchased a 34% stake in Atari Europe in March 2008, and is expected to acquire the remaining stake from Atari parent company Infogrames next month. Under the terms, Atari Europe sales and marketing staff will be transferred to a new business called Distribution Partners. The new unit will distribute Namco Bandai products across Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, according to MCV. John Galloway, a former executive at Take-Two, THQ and Electronic Arts, is expected to lead the U.K. and Nordic offices of Distribution Partners.
