Maynard, Mass. - 38 Studios, the game studio founded by former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling, announced on Wednesday that it has acquired Maryland-based Big Huge Games.

Terms between the two privately held firms were not disclosed.

The acquisition is "a critical step in 38 Studios' strategy to deliver a broad range of entertainment products centered on its original fantasy IP, codenamed 'Copernicus'," according to the announcement.

The purchase of Big Huge Games includes all of the company's IP, tools, technology, assets, and works-in-progress.

Founded in 2000, Big Huge Games is responsible for titles including "Rise of Nations."
