New York - Digital music service eMusic announced on Monday that it has signed its first deal with a major record label, Sony (NYSE: SNE) Music, which has agreed to license its back catalog to the service.

The deal brings recordings that are at least two years old from all of Sony Music's labels to eMusic's U.S. subscribers.

Launched in 1998, eMusic is also available in Canada and 26 countries in the EU, and counts around 400,000 subscribers.

The company currently offers a range of subscription plans, starting at $11.99 per month for 24 song downloads.

EMusic CEO Danny Stein told The New York Times that the company has been in talks with the majors "for several years," adding that negotiations remain ongoing with the others.
