Los Angeles - At the E3 video game conference in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Nintendo announced plans to release a new game in its Mario franchise for the Wii in the fall, as well as an improved motion-controlled Wii Remote controller, and an updated version of its popular "Wii Fit" exercise title. "New Super Mario Bros. Wii" features both single-player adventures and collaborative play for up to four players.

The Wii MotionPlus controller "senses subtle motion and can locate where and how players hold the Wii Remote controller in 3D space," enabling actions like slicing, or shooting a bow and arrow.

The new controller is expected to figure in a number of third-party games launching in the next few weeks.

Nintendo also plans to release "Wii Fit Plus," an update for its exercise-based title that adds new specialized routines.

Other upcoming titles announced include "Super Mario Galaxy 2" and "Metroid: Other M" for the Wii, due in 2010.

For its DSi handheld, Nintendo also announced a new feature that lets users upload pictures taken with the device directly to Facebook via Facebook Connect.

"From modern updates of our most iconic franchises to the introduction of inventive devices, we are continuing to add entirely new dimensions to the video game experience," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales and marketing.
