Los Angeles - Sony (NYSE: SNE) Computer Entertainment America plans to join rivals Nintendo and Microsoft in introducing its own motion-sensing controller for the PlayStation 3 in 2010, the company announced at the E3 video game conference in Los Angeles on Tuesday. Sony also confirmed speculation about the release of a new, 50% smaller version of its PSP handheld, the PSP Go, which will go on sale for $250 in North America and Europe on Oct. 1.

The device will do away with Sony's proprietary UMD disc format in favor of digital distribution of games; the PSP Go will also be able to access video content from partners including Showtime, Starz and E! Entertainment.

Among the many upcoming games that Sony detailed at its press conference were "Agent," a PS3 exclusive from "Grand Theft Auto" makers Rockstar Games; "Uncharted 2: Among Thieves"; "God of War II"; "Assassin's Creed II"; and "Final Fantasy XIV."
