London - The largest
broadband ISP in Britain,
BT, has been accused of throttling subscribers' download speeds at peak times,
particularly for users of video services like YouTube and the BBC iPlayer, the
BBC reported. Sources told the BBC that subscribers to BT's Option 1 broadband
package, which promises up to 8Mbps, were seeing speeds for the iPlayer slowed
to 700kbps at peak times. BT told the BBC that its terms and conditions state
that the company does in fact "limit the speed of all video streaming to
896Kbps...during peak times only."
