Los Angeles - Sixty-eight
percent of U.S. households
play computer or video games, an increase of 3% over 2008, according to a
report conducted by Ipsos MediaCT on behalf of the Entertainment Software
Association (ESA), a trade group of U.S. game publishers and
developers.
The survey also found that 42% of American homes have a video game console. The average U.S. game player is 35 years old; adult gamers have been playing for 12 years on average -- a decrease from 2008 -- indicating that more Americans are now playing games for the first time. Almost half of all games sold (45%) are rated 'E' for Everyone, and 77% of parents believe that the parental controls available in all recent video game consoles are useful.
