- News Corp. (NYSE: NWS) announced on Thursday that it has hired Chase Carey, CEO of the
DirecTV Group (NASD: DTV), to be its new deputy chairman, president and chief operating
officer.
Carey spent 15 years as a senior executive at News Corp., before leaving to take the CEO spot at DirecTV in 2003. He will join the News Corp. board when departing COO Peter Chernin steps down as a director on July 1. "Chase has been one of my closest advisors and friends for years and I am delighted we'll once again be working together across our businesses as we face the challenges and great opportunities ahead," said News Corp. chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch. The DirecTV Group said today that is has formed a committee of directors tasked with searching for a new president and CEO, and named current executive vice president of legal, HR and administration Larry Hunter as interim CEO.
