"NCIS" Actor Bemoans Impostor Twitter, MySpace AccountsAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on June 9, 2009 - 9:46am.
Los Angeles
- Actress Pauley Perrette, who plays Abby on the CBS (NYSE: CBS) primetime drama
"NCIS," has posted a video on YouTube stating that she is in fact not
on Twitter or MySpace, meaning that fans are interacting with impostor
accounts.
Perrette chronicles her attempts to get the accounts removed from both sites -- which included several tries at sending a proper "salute" photo to MySpace, and being asked by Twitter for her manager or publicist to confirm her identity. Perrette countered that she actually doesn't have a publicist or manager, and further stated her belief that social networking sites should be compelled to verify a user's identity before they set up accounts. "That's not fair to you. You're being lied to; you're being tricked," Perrette tells fans in her video. "Social networking sites have a responsibility to verify an individual's identity before you get sucked into a lie." Twitter said yesterday that it will soon be introducing Verified Accounts for celebrities, politicians, athletes and other individuals prone to dealing with impostor accounts. The Twitter.com/PauleyPerrette account has also now been suspended.
