Judge Tosses Patent Infringement Claim Against Nintendo

Redmond, Wash. - Nintendo of America announced on Friday that a federal judge in Los Angeles has dismissed a patent claim against the company brought by Guardian Media Technologies, which sued a host of companies for allegedly infringing its technology that sets parental controls on DVD players.

"We are very pleased with the Court's decision," said Rick Flamm, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of legal and general counsel.

"Nintendo vigorously defends patent lawsuits. At the earliest stages of this case, Nintendo convinced the Court to dismiss this case as Guardian's patent had nothing to do with Nintendo's products."

Indeed, the Wii does have parental controls, but does not include a DVD player.

Nintendo has been targeted in over a dozen patent claims since launching the Wii in late 2006.

I think this is a good

I think this is a good illustration of one company litigating and preserving their own IP rights and I hope this case does not generate bad feelings. for more on patent litigation, see http://www.generalpatent.com/patent-litigation
