Report: Americans Favor Internet Over Cell Phones, Cable TVAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on June 17, 2009 - 11:25am.
Washington - Americans favor their Internet connections more than their cell
phones or cable TV, according to a report from the Pew Internet & American
Life Project.
"We found that broadband is now in the 'must keep' category for Americans, even when economic times are tough. Many consumers view their home broadband connection as a conduit for connecting to community and economic opportunities," said report author John Horrigan. The report found 63% of adult Americans now have home broadband Internet connections, and that respondents were twice as likely to have cut back or cancelled a cell phone plan (22%) or cable TV service (22%) than Internet service (9%) in the past 12 months. Additionally, 55% of home broadband users said broadband was very important to at least one dimension of their lives and community.
