Redwood City,
Calif. - Electronic Arts (NASD: ERTS) on
Thursday named John Schappert as its new COO, following news that John
Pleasants will leave the company to become the new CEO of social game developer
Playdom. Schappert joined EA in 1991 and went on to lead many of the company's biggest
game franchises, before leaving in 2007 to become the corporate vice president
of Microsoft's interactive entertainment business. Pleasants, also the former
president and CEO of Revolution Heath and Ticketmaster, will replace Playdom
co-founder Dan Yue, who will become chief product officer.
