Washington - Congressional Quarterly (CQ), the DC-based publisher of news and analysis of Congress, politics and public policy, will be acquired by the U.K.-based Economist Group, FishbowlDC reported.

Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed, with an official announcement expected in the coming weeks.

Florida-based Times Publishing said in January that it would seek a buyer for CQ, and hired investment banking firm Jordan, Edmiston Group to explore a possible sale.

CQ, which was founded in 1945 by Nelson Poynter, then owner of the St. Petersburg Times, now derives the bulk of its revenue from its subscription site, CQ.com.

Economist Group also publishes Roll Call.
