"Mafia Wars" Game Maker Zynga Sues "Mobsters" Maker PlaydomAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on June 23, 2009 - 8:08am.
San Francisco
- Zynga, a developer of online games for social media, has filed suit against
rival Playdom over ads the company placed for its "Mobsters" game on
Facebook, arguing that they are misleading consumers interested in its own "Mafia
Wars" title, PaidContent reported.
The Playdom ads in question pose the question "Like Mafia Wars?" and then direct Facebook users to its own Mobsters game. San Francisco-based Zynga has asked a court to compel Playdom to remove the ads, pay unspecified damages, and also run a new batch of ads that explain the differences between the two games. PaidContent noted that both companies generate revenue from sales of virtual goods, as well as ads, within their games.
