Washington – SoundExchange, the entity set up by the
recording industry to collect and distribute royalties from music webcasting
services, announced on Wednesday a project with the American Federation of
Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) to identify some 6,000 artists owed
royalty payments. SoundExchange provided AFTRA with a list of its members who
are not registered with SoundExchange, which AFTRA will use to attempt to reach
the artists via letter, email and phone calls. A recent audit found that
SoundExchange is holding at least $39 million owed to artists that it has not
yet located.
