San Francisco - Outspark, a publisher of online multiplayer games that generate revenue through microtransactions, announced on Tuesday that it has closed an $8.3 million third round of financing, led by Syncom Venture Partners.

SBI Investment and Mille Plateaux also participated in the round, proceeds from which will be used to fuel internal growth, as well as for strategic investments and acquisitions.

Launched in January 2007, San Francisco-based Outspark now counts 5.4 million unique monthly visitors, and 4.7 million registered users on its site, which currently offers five massively multiplayer online games.

The company, which recently opened its platform to third-party developers and publishers, claims its "freemium" game model is attracting around $50 APRU (Average Revenue Per Paying User) per month.
