Report: Microsoft to Launch Spotify-Like Music ServiceAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on July 14, 2009 - 9:07am.
London - Microsoft (NASD: MSFT) is preparing to launch a streaming music service
similar to the popular European ad-supported service Spotify, the Daily
Telegraph reports. "We are looking at launching a music streaming service
imminently. It will be a similar principle to Spotify but we are still
examining how the business model will work," MSN executive producer Peter
Bale told the Telegraph. The service, which could launch before the end of this month, is expected to offer free, ad-supported streaming, a subscription-based streaming option, and paid song downloads. Microsoft is reportedly in talks with partners to handle song download sales. The service also reportedly may tie in with Microsoft's Xbox video game console, and its Zune portable media player.
