Palo Alto, Calif. - Aloqa, a developer of "context-aware" mobile alert services, announced on Thursday that it has closed a $1.5 million first round of financing, from Wellington Partners and individual angel investors.

Palo Alto, Calif.-based Aloqa's service proactively recommends interesting businesses and events based on a mobile user's location and preferences, and also shows a user which friends are currently nearby.

The company is currently offering a beta test of its mobile application on Android-powered mobile handsets in the U.S. and Germany, and plans to launch on most major mobile platforms in the fall.
