- The number of Americans watching online video has nearly doubled since 2006,
from 33% then to 62% today, with 19% reporting they watch online video every
day, up from 8% in 2006, according to a report from the Pew Internet &
American Life Project.
The report credits broadband penetration as the key factor pushing online video viewing higher. Among those ages 18-29, 89% say they watch online video, with 36% reporting they watch Web video every day. Pew found that 35% of respondents watch TV shows online, up from 16% in 2007, and that 8% have connected their computers to a television to view Web videos. Mobile video viewing is also on the rise, with 14% reporting they have watched a video on their phone, up from 10% in 2007.
