San Jose,
Calif. - Melodis, developer of
the Midomi mobile music identification application, has raised $4 million in a
new round of funding, led by Walden Venture Capital's Larry Marcus, VentureBeat
reported.
A "major non-U.S. global device maker" also participated in the round. The company claims "several million" downloads of its $4.99 mobile application, which is available on the iPhone and other platforms. San Jose, Calif.-based Melodis' Midomi application can identify a song when a mobile phone is held up to a speaker, similar to Shazam's free application. However, Midomi can also identify a song from a user humming a melody or tapping a rhythm.
