Sony to Debut New E-Book Readers, Discount Top E-Book TitlesAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on August 4, 2009 - 12:07pm.
New York
- Sony (NYSE: SNE) plans to introduce two new e-book reader devices on Wednesday, priced at
$199 and $299, and will also cut prices on bestselling e-books at its online
store, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing a person briefed on the matter.
The new e-book reader models will feature 5-inch and 6-inch touchscreens, respectively, and will reportedly lack a wireless Internet connection, featured on competing devices from Amazon (NASD: AMZN) and Barnes & Noble (NYSE: BKS). The devices are slated to go on sale in August. Sony also plans to slash two dollars off the price of the bestselling titles at its e-book store, from $11.99, to match pricing from Amazon and Barnes & Noble, a source told The Journal.
