Twitter Faces Patent Infringement LawsuitAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on August 6, 2009 - 8:04am.
San Francisco - A patent
infringement lawsuit has been filed against microblogging service Twitter, by a
Texas company
that offers a service that "simultaneously delivers uniform, reliable and
verifiable emergency messages to an unlimited number of contacts within
seconds, across all means and devices of communication."
Sugar Land, Texas-based TechRadium says the Twitter service infringes on three of its patents for its IRIS (Immediate Response Information System), which is used by the government, schools and other customers to relay information. A patent lawyer told Wired.com that Twitter is likely to argue that TechRadium's patents are too generic, and therefore should be invalidated.
