Palo Alto,
Calif. - Online social network
Facebook announced on Monday that it will acquire FriendFeed, a social media
monitoring service, for an undisclosed sum. "Since I first tried
FriendFeed, I’ve admired their team for creating such a simple and elegant
service for people to share information," said Facebook founder and CEO Mark
Zuckerberg.
"As this shows, our culture continues to make Facebook a place where the best engineers come to build things quickly that lots of people will use."
Mountain View, Calif.-based FriendFeed has raised over $5 million in venture capital financing for its service, which lets users monitor update feeds on a range of social networks, including Facebook, Digg, Flickr, LinkedIn, Pandora, Twitter, Yelp and YouTube.
Under the deal, all of FriendFeed’s employees will be retained by Facebook, and the company’s founders will get senior roles on Facebook’s engineering and product teams.
