Saratoga, Calif. - Roku, the maker of a $99 broadband-connected TV set-top box, has raised $8.4 million in new venture capital financing from Menlo Ventures, Contentinople reported, citing a regulatory filing, and also launched streaming Major League Baseball games on its platform.

Seattle-based Roku will begin offering live streaming baseball games to subscribers of the league's MLB.TV Premium service.

The company is also backed by Netflix, whose movies and TV episodes can stream directly to TVs via a Netflix-branded Roku player.
