New York
- Boxee, a developer of set-top box software that can deliver Web video and
audio content to a television, announced on Tuesday that it has raised $6
million in its second round of venture capital financing, led by General
Catalyst Partners.
Previous backers Union Square Ventures and Spark Capital also participated. New York-based Boxee plans to use the funds to continue development on its beta release, due in the fall. It will also look to add more content like TV shows, Web series and movies from ad-based, subscription-based and a la carte video services; extend its APIs to developers; and work to embed its software into more devices like connected TVs, Blu-ray payers and game consoles.
