Georgian Twitter Attack Target Says Russian Hackers to BlameAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on August 12, 2009 - 8:07pm.
Tbilisi, Georgia - Russian hackers were behind the
denial-of-service attack last week against Twitter, Facebook and LiveJournal,
according to a Georgian blogger who is believed to be the actual target of the
attack, Reuters reported.
Georgy Jakhaia, a 34-year-old economics professor, has been critical of Russia on his blog, particularly regarding the five-day war with Georgia -- the one-year anniversary of which was marked with the cyber attack. "No one else but Russia was interested in destroying my site," Jakjaia told Reuters, adding that he has called on the Kremlin and Russian authorities to investigate. The distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack last week took Twitter offline for hours and hampered access to Facebook and LiveJournal.
