Chicago - MSNBC, the cable channel joint venture between Microsoft and NBC Universal, announced that it has acquired EveryBlock, an online hyperlocal news publishing service.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Founded in 2007, Chicago-based EveryBlock won a two-year grant from The Knight Foundation to help develop its service, which offers neighborhood block-level news and information in 15 cities -- including Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.

The service offers nearby news coverage, blog entries, civic data, photos and other types of information.
