New York - Qtrax, an ad-supported music download service seven years in-the-making, announced on Tuesday that it will begin a global roll out with a launch in the Asia Pacific region on Oct. 29.

The company plans first to offer its service in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand -- before launching by year's end in the U.S., Canada and the U.K., and in the rest of the world within the first half of next year.

"We have developed some substantial funding & strategic support in Asia- Pacific & I am very pleased to see Qtrax come to fruition in the region," said executive director Chai Ong.

New York-based Qtrax bungled its first launch last year, when it announced having signed licensing deals with major record labels that were not yet in place.

The company has also been sued recently by a number of vendors over unpaid debts, including Oracle, which said Qtrax bounced a check for $1.8 million.
