European Commission Investigating Exploding iPod ReportsAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on August 19, 2009 - 9:54am.
New York
- The European Commission has announced that it is investigating reports from
several consumers that their Apple (NASD: AAPL) iPhone or iPod had exploded, The New York
Times reported.
Consumer protection commissioner's spokeswoman Helen Kearns told The Times that Apple said it regards the reports as "isolated incidents and they don't have evidence of a general problem." Two exploding iPhone/iPod reports have surfaced recently in Europe -- one in France where a teenager suffered slight injury, and another in Britain where no injury was reported. "We are aware of these reports and we are waiting to receive the iPhones from the customers," Apple said in a statement. "Until we have the full details, we don't have anything further to add."
