MySpace Acquires Music Discovery Service iLikeAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on August 19, 2009 - 10:18am.
Los Angeles
- News Corp.'s (NYSE: NWS) MySpace on Wednesday announced that it will acquire iLike, the
provider of a music discovery service with 55 million users. While financial
details were not disclosed, reports earlier this week pegged the purchase price
at around $20 million."The iLike acquisition advances our relentless pursuit of innovation and the need to create new distributed social experiences in music and beyond," said MySpace CEO Owen Van Natta. Founded in 2006, iLike counts 55 million users -- including over 10 million on Facebook, where iLike is the most popular music application. The company will remain headquartered in Seattle, and retain its management team, including co-founding brothers Ali and Hadi Partovi. MySpace's Van Natta also said on a conference call that the company intends to extend iLike's recommendation engine beyond music to all forms of entertainment, PaidContent reported.
