Creative Commons Gets $500K From Google Co-Founder, WifeAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on August 28, 2009 - 6:53am.
San Francisco
- Creative Commons, a nonprofit that advocates for less restrictive copyrights,
has received a gift of $500,000 from Google co-founder Sergey Brin and his
wife, Anne Wojcicki, co-founder of 23andMe.
"Today's challenging economic climate has made it difficult for nonprofit organizations like Creative Commons to raise funds, making Wojcicki and Brin's wonderful gift all the more appreciated," the organization said. The funds will be used to support Creative Commons generally, with a focus on developing its Science Commons project, which advocates for less restrictive patents and greater access to scientific research.
