NowPublic, a Vancouver-based company focused on citizen journalism, announced
on Tuesday that it has been acquired by Examiner.com, a unit of The Anschutz
Company's Clarity Digital Group.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Launched in 2005, NowPublic has to date raised about $12 million in venture capital financing for its service, which has contributing reporters in more than 6,000 cities in 160 countries. Examiner.com counts more than 15,000 citizen journalists in 109 U.S. cities, and projected the addition of NowPublic will help push that number to 30,000 by the end of the year. The site attracts some 17 million unique visitors per month.
