Netflix to Award $1 Million Developer Prize; Debut New ContestAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on September 1, 2009 - 10:04am.
New York
- Online DVD rental service Netflix (NASD: NFLX) intends later this month to award a $1
million prize to the engineering team who won its contest to improve the
company's movie recommendations engine by 10%, and also announced plans for a
second $1 million challenge.
It's unknown yet which of the two teams who claim to have reached the goal -- of the more than 40,000 teams that participated in the three-year-old contest -- will claim the prize at an event in New York City on Sept. 21. At the event, the company said it will also announce details of its Netflix Prize 2 contest.
