Palm Introduces Pixi Smartphone; Drops Pre Price to $149

Sunnyvale, Calif. - Palm (NASD: PALM) on Wednesday introduced the Palm Pixi, a smaller, less expensive smartphone cousin to its touch-screen Pre.

The Pixi will feature a full QWERTY keyboard, 2-megapixel camera, GPS and 8GB of memory.

Users will also be able to sync contacts, calendars and IM from LinkedIn and Yahoo with Palm Synergy software, adding to existing links to Google, Facebook and Exchange ActiveSync.

Pricing details for the Pixi, which is scheduled for release in the fall, were not disclosed.

Additionally, Palm announced that Sprint (NYSE: S) will offer its Pre smartphone for $149 with a two-year service agreement and $100 mail-in rebate.
