Mountain View, Calif. - Google (NASD: GOOG) said that it has launched a new online auction site where advertisers can bid on display ad space.

The company said that its revamped DoubleClick Ad Exchange "enables display ad space to be allocated much more efficiently and easily across the web."

"Better technology can help make display advertising work better for all involved," said Neal Mohan, Google's vice president of product management.

"We're focused on growing the display advertising pie for everyone. The DoubleClick Ad Exchange is a major part of that goal."

On the sell side, ad space will come from major online publishers, such as newspapers and large portals, as well as from the company's third party AdSense publisher sites.

On the buy side, the exchange already includes over 40 ad networks across North America and Europe.
